Hygrophila polysperma belongs to the most meticulous aquarium plants and originates from South-East Asia. The stem becomes 25-40 cm tall and 4-8 cm wide. It is a particularly good plant for the beginner because it grows under almost all conditions. Therefore it is a very good plant for starting the aquarium. Usually it grows so quickly that it is important to be careful not to strangle other plants. This requires a lot of care, where the top shoots must be cut regularly just above a low-sitting leaf set.

Top shoots can be replanted in the aquarium and will quickly form roots and grow further. The cut-off shot will quickly form new side shots. If a leaf is in the water surface, a small new plant can be formed. Hygrophila polysperma varies greatly in both leaf form and leaf color, and both conditions depend to some extent on the lighting.
